Who We Are

Patrick Babcock
Founder / Executive Director

Patrick Babcock

Patrick Babcock, 43, originally from New York City, moved to Portland, Maine in 2000, and is currently enjoying over 15 years of continued sobriety.

Having first been introduced to the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous back in 1988, as well as both inpatient and extended care programs, Mr. Babcock has seen first hand, through his own experience what works (and what does not work) in regard to "the process of recovery".

A graduate of Fordham University's College of Business Administration in New York City, with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Finance, Mr. Babcock began his studies and has trained under licensed alcohol & chemical dependency professionals since 2001, specializing in Motivational Interviewing, PTSD, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the Gorski - CENAPS model of Treatment and Relapse Prevention, and Life Skills Mentorship.

Mr. Babcock is the Founder and Executive Director of Foundation House, having begun his professional career helping men in recovery from alcoholism & chemical dependency in 2002, and since that time has helped hundreds of men enjoy the freedom from addiction and the joy of a clean and sober way of life. It is Mr. Babcock's belief that a 12-step program is essential for an individual to enjoy long term recovery, and, as a result of his own experiences within "the program", has created an environment in Foundation House that teaches the residents not just how to get sober, but rather, through the use of a practical and holistic approach to the 12-steps, how to stay sober.

Mr. Babcock credits learning his motivational and leadership techniques first by observing those of his father's - a successful business owner; by studying the teachings of Coaches Vince Lombardi and John Wooden; by emulating the work in the recovery field as demonstrated by Mr. Greg Varley and Mrs. Geraldine Owen Delaney (both of Alina Lodge); and by remembering how it felt to be taught by his sixth grade teacher, Mr. Mike Michelson - someone who, to this very day, Mr. Babcock still wishes he could be like.

Mr. Babcock currently resides in Cape Elizabeth, Maine (seven miles from our two facilities) with his wife Danika, daughter Lula, and their two dogs Uma and Maddy. Mr. Babcock enjoys scuba diving, skiing, live concerts, the practice of Buddhism, Tai Chi, Argentinian tango, travel, everything about Portland, Maine, the New York Rangers, a good cigar, and yes, the Boston Red Sox.

Tim Maxfield
Program Director

Tim Maxfield

Tim Maxfield, 42, raised in New England, has been a Maine resident for over 20 years. A career sales manager, Tim joined Foundation House in 2005 and currently serves as Program Director. He enjoys over 4 years of continuous sobriety.

Mr. Maxfield is a graduate of St. Lawrence University in upstate New York. Tim has a B.A. in English Writing and Religious Studies and was a member of the Religious Honors Studies Society at St. Lawrence University. Mr. Maxfield's leadership techniques were also highlighted by coursework and training at the Leadershape Institute in 1988, and at Dale Carnegie in 1990.

Introduced to 12-Step recovery in 1999 through residential rehabs, Tim has a dedication to the fundamentals of real life recovery and the importance of the transitional bridge between treatment and clean and sober living, continuing to guide men in early recovery through the 12-steps for over 3 years as a sponsor.

Tim is a Certified Residential Medicine Administrator (CRMA) and works closely with our network of therapists and psychiatrists to ensure proper medicine management on site. Mr. Maxfield believes that effective treatment must include the mental, physical and spiritual aspects of recovery.

Mr. Maxfield, the father of a 14 year old daughter, is an avid sailor, and is very active with the Greater Portland recovery community, his local church and family. Just recently, Mr. Maxfield accompanied his Portland, Maine church to Peru to help a local village with their church construction project while also focusing in on both youth and adult education. In his free time, Tim enjoys spending time on an island off the Maine Coast with family, cutting wood, exploring the rocky Maine coastline by land and sea, and enjoying the company in the old family home built in the 1800's. Mr. Maxfield, like Mr. Babcock shares the same ear for a well performed live concert.

Counseling Style:
My counseling style is a combination of active listening and real problem solving.

I believe that the client and I can work together to create solutions by identifying personal values and beliefs while learning how to communicate more effectively. This creates the possibility for change. How we think and what we believe has a significant effect on our daily behavior and our sense of well being.

Active listening plus real problem solving equals active solutions.

THE CENTER FOR CREATIVE HEALING

CCH Logo

Our stories are potent forces in our lives. They shape us. They tell us who we are, and what is possible for us. At the Center for Creative Healing, we believe that as the hero of your own story, you are also the editor. This can be a liberating revelation. It means that you have the power to shape your story.

In counseling at the Center for Creative Healing, certain questions are likely to emerge:

  • What are your life themes?
  • Where do they come from?
  • How have they served you?
  • How do they get in the way?
  • What is the story you want to tell about your life?
  • What changes do you need to make to begin to move your life in that direction?

In individual work, or in therapeutic life story writing and storytelling groups, you will realize the unique expressiveness of your authentic self and your capacity for creativity, growth and change.

Our Mission: At the Center for Creative Healing our mission is to help people realize their greatest potential through transformative mental health and substance abuse counseling. We believe that good therapy is a dynamic collaboration built on authentic relationship. We respect our clients and honor their strengths and their stories.

We accept a number of insurances, including MaineCare. To contact us for a free initial consultation, please call 207-699-HEAL (4325), or email center@thecenterforcreativehealing.com.
